New Zealand - January 2020

New Zealand - January 2020

We had a family reunion in Wanaka in December 2019/January 2020 (as you do because its a beautiful part of the world.)

So what does any self respecting father of 3 young kids do during such an event....

Correct...

Sneak off for few days fishing.

I caught up with Ian Cole who is a Wanaka based fly fishing guide, who is a fantastic bloke for a few days fishing. Ian is a real treat to go fishing with, professional, highly skilled, he works hard for clients and he has a great friendly nature about him. I couldnt rate Ian more highly as a guide and good bloke!

We went out and fished the lake one afternoon and had a great time for a few hours.

Ian unhooking a nice fish

Nice fish Ian!!

Yours truly managed a couple

The weather was sensational - warm!

Look at that water clarity!

I took my cousin Mark out fishing a few days later and he manged to catch a a couple. Good work Mark!

Here Ian is getting read for a day of guiding. Nothing starts the day better than a hot coffee... you can see that on the ground near the car! Awesome

I manged to catch a nice 6lber on a size 16 parachute adams that was feeding flat stick in a nice bubbly run, right near the car! Fly fishing in New Zealand doesnt get any better than that!

Thanks Ian!

Off you go old pal

Another nice fish later in the afternoon that also took a dry. Great times.

The green of New Zealand makes a change from the brown of home... especially given that there were some major bush fire events occuring in Australia at the same time we were in NZ!

I had a good day one day by myself.. landed 22 and lost 4. Probably one of my best days ever in New Zealand, and all from the shore of a lake... sensational!!

I had another day being guided by Ian. He took me to a beautiful looking river. I manged to hook 3 in this run you can see (or you could see if my big head wasnt in the way). Only managed to land one though, but man it was fun!!

What a super run of water.

Off you go.

I managed 4 days fishing which was great given it was a family holiday :-)

As usual I'm already thinking about the next trip!
